Prostitution

While driving home today from uni i saw a lady who i believed was a prostitute. She had the look about her, the fishnet tights, the short skirt little vest top (ok so i've just described something that could possibly walk out of planet on a saturday night but i'm sure this woman was a prostitute.) and at first yeah i thought "ewww dirty slag" but then i sort of felt guilty (i do this from time to time, like when i laughed at the fat man dancing in WS1 then immediatly felt bad as i realised how much he was enjoying himself) as i thought to myself "i wonder what makes her do that for a living?"

Prostitution is seen as being bad. The women are thought of as slags and the men that pay them are thought of as dirty old men. Yet what if the woman sells her body so that she is able to pay for food, clothes and the house for her children. Surely selling her body makes her less 'bad' than being a bad mom?

Also if prostitution is bad then why is it legal in the Netherlands? Surely it must not be bad if it is a legall and regulated. In Amsterdam the 'red light district' is a popular destination for international sex tourism, and as they say 'sex sells'.

On the whole i do not believe prostitution is bad but that does not mean i'd go out there and sell my body (i probably wouldn't get paid much anyway :S)
