Is smoking cool?

Is smoking cool?

In 1950’s America cigarette smoking was the epitome of cool and glamour. No Hollywood Icon was seen without one. On screen beauties such as Audrey Hepburn gave sex appeal to the cigarette. Due to this by the late 1950’s 80% of the UK’s adults were hooked. Smoking was cheap, glamorous and extremely sexy.

However, like everything that we enjoy we are always told it is bad for us. Cream cakes make us fat, alcohol slowly kills our liver and smoking gives us lung cancer. Suddenly smoking went from being the epitome of cool to a shunned and disgusting habit.

Smokers are now made to go and stand out in the cold, huddled around their fag ends for warmth. Social smokers are long gone as no one wishes to stand out in the cold just to speak to their smoking companions.

So all in all smoking is no longer cool but a dirty habit for old men coughing up their lungs or 16 year old girls trying to act older.
